“I found I could say things with color and shapes that I couldn't say any other way--things I had no words for.” Georgia O'Keeffe

Erica Carlisle is a Jewelry Designer and Painter based out of Birmingham, Alabama hailing from Brooklyn, NY. She received her formal training at Rhode Island School of Design, graduating with a Bachelor of Fine Arts.
As a child, Erica was very quickly a painter at heart, finding inspiration in the natural landscape and foliage that surrounded her. As her work matured, her process became more emotive, exploring the concept of patience in the ritual, and letting go of that which you can not control.
Her large scale works are a thoughtful and intuitive experiment in color theory, created with fluid layers of paint, and the manipulation of pigments. The organic compositions and intersection of colors feel light and ethereal. While Erica’s process is unfussy, the details in her canvas are quite complex allowing the viewer to continue to discover subtle details or plays on color within each glance.

Erica is currently working on two series, Idlewild and Natives.
The Natives Series is a collection of paintings exploring the rich foliage of Central Alabama specific to Birmingham. The Collection boasts local flowers, and vegetation sprawled across large canvases, delicately translated in soft layers of acrylic
The Idlewild Series, is an abstract collection exploring the notion of rituals, and letting go of what is beyond your control.
Idlewild
